          Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital The Hospital Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital is located in Sriracha District, Chonburi, founded by Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana (Sri Savarindira, the Queen Grandmother), and is one of the oldest hospitals in Thailand. It was established on September10th 1902. The first hospital building was built near the sea with five thatched roof houses. The opening ceremony was presided by His Royal Highness Prince VividhVarnaprija, the director of Nursing Department. Later, King Rama V visited the hospital and named “Somdej Hospital”, which has been adopted since that time. Between 1902 and 1917, the hospital was directed by His Royal Highness Prince VividhVarnaprija. the director of Nursing Department. In 1918, the hospital was operated under the auspices of the Medical Faculty of Chulalongkorn University. However, Queen Savang Vadhana remained responsible for all the expenses. The Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation was established to help the patients and has been continuing to the present day.
          In 1918, the hospital was transferred to the Thai Red Cross Society, being a section in the Relief Division.

          In 1972, the hospital became a division of The Thai Red Cross Society. Since then, many patient buildings and officer houses were built.
Funding was from donation by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and members of the Royal family as well as government officials and public citizen. The hospital, also known as “Sriracha Hospital”, changed its name to “Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital” in 1997 in honor of the founder.

          At present, the 500-bed hospital provides  comprehensive medical care with high quality management system in response to the needs
of people who seek treatment. The hospital aims to provide excellent services that meet professional standard and highest customer’s satisfaction for all people. Many specialists and experts, doctors and nurses, who earn experiences in medical care provide clinical services in medicine, surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, general practices, dermatology, ophthalmology, ENT, acupuncture and dental clinic.

          The emergency medical service (EMS) provides intensive care in mobile center 24 hours a day for urgent patients and disasters in Sriracha and nearby communities. The hospital also recruits blood donors, provides blood collection, mobile medical clinic and first-aid, and is also responsible for the Eye Bank in the region. Besides, extended outpatient special clinics are also available for those who cannot attend regular-hour services. The hospital is affiliated with the Social Security Welfare Program since 1991, giving the patients privilege for those who choose the hospital for their medical care. Currently, there are more than 200,000 registered Social Security patients in the program; 7 primary care centers and more than 70 Network clinics around Chonburi, Rayong, Chacherngsao provinces are available for service.

          The hospital has been awarded “Thailand Popular Hospital for Social Security Welfare” by the Ministry of Labor. The hospital has been selected as Quality Health Promotion Hospital in Chonburi under the government’s health insurance universal coverage scheme, covering the citizen of Sriracha Municipality and Sub-Districts. In this regards, the hospital performs outreach activities which include: – Community Health, such as health promotion services, disease prevention and control, clean food-good taste program and home health care; – School Health, such as student health assessment and vaccination, health education, food and environmental health, dental health, illicit drug prevention and risk behavior towards health; – Elderly Club and Health Volunteer, in cooperation with Sriracha Municipality.

          Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital is the academic training center for medical student and nursing students from many universities, e.g.: – Medical students from Chulalongkorn University, – Nursing students from Burapa University, – Rehabilitation students from Rangsit University and Huachiew University. The hospital, being a clinical teaching center, has joined the program with Burapa University to produce medical graduates in response towards the demand of doctors in the country and provide educational opportunity for students in the Eastern provinces.

          The hospital is recently approved by the Thai Medical Council for postgraduate training in Family Medicine, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology. This helps to develop innovative capabilities of medical personnel towards modern standard of diagnosis and treatment; Examples are hemodialysis, asthma, tuberculosis. In the near future, a new hospital building, the Memorial Medical Center of the 150th Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sri Savarindira, the Queen Grandmother of Thailand, will accommodate more spaces for outpatient clinics, operating rooms, endoscopies suites, inpatient beds, laboratory and imaging center. It will become an excellent medical center in the region in occupational and industrial medicine, emergency medicine, disaster medicine and other major medical fields.
